of the day, they can grab a drink from the in-room bar and
soak up the panoramic views across the River Irwell through
the floor-to-ceiling windows.
St. James Court
Taj Hotels recently completed a nine-month renovation of
the St. James Court’s 313 rooms and 25 suites. The Almoners Tower includes revamped rooms Nos. 755 and 756 — a
500-square-foot-plus Premium Master Suite connected to a
250-square-foot Premium Double, which can also be booked
separately. This new configuration is well suited for families;
you can add a roll-away bed, and the rooms are connected
through a third door, which encloses a piece of hallway.
Across the courtyard, the expansive Jaguar Suite (No.
1142) is exclusively designed by Ian Callum, Jaguar’s ac-
claimed design director. The sleek, 1,832-square-foot,
two-bedroom apartment alludes to both classic and contem-
porary Jaguar models, from the legendary 1960s’ E-type to
the state-of-the-art C-X75 (think: leather seating, framed car
prints, bespoke wallpaper with the Jaguar insignia, state-of-
the-art Denon and Creston sound systems). Plus, there’s a full
kitchen, dining room for 10 and a balcony overlooking the
courtyard for entertaining with plenty of “vroom.”
The Cinema Suite is the same size as the Jaguar Suite
but has a totally different vibe, as if you’ve stepped into a
Merchant Ivory film. It was created by Indian clothing de-
signer Sabyasachi Mukherjee with such touches as a romantic
four-poster bed, a rich leather Chesterfield sofa, floral fabrics
and cinematic prints throughout and, of course, the 85-inch
plasma TV for watching movies.
London’s Draycott Hotel has launched a new spa and wellness
experience in partnership with RUUBY Black Label. Available to
guests from the comfort of their own room or suite, the service
offers more than 60 health and beauty wellness experiences.
Spa treatments include facials by established skincare brands
Natura Bisse and Merder Beauty, massages, aromatherapy and
reflexology. Beauty-focused treatments include tanning, manicures, pedicures, hair removal, eyelash extensions, blow drying
and makeovers. Also available are physical health sessions such
as personal training, yoga and Pilates.
In each room and suite, guests will find an extensive menu
of everything the new program has to offer. Guests can e-mail
ahead of their stay or call reception if they want to schedule a
service (experiences are available 24 hours a day but require
advanced booking). Therapists and technicians, from RUUBY
Black Label, meet guests in their rooms at the time of their
appointment. Treatments, with the exception of facials during
peak hours, are all priced the same and are charged at an
hourly rate depending on the time of day.
The Draycott Hotel occupies three restored red brick Edwardian homes just off Chelsea’s Sloane Square. The property
offers 35 rooms, many with their own fireplace and garden view.
Late last year, the intimate Milestone Hotel completed
renovation of two of its signature suites. Room No. 108, the
Grand Master Suite — now affectionately known as “The
Hermès Suite” — has 12-foot coffered ceilings, leaded arched
windows and doors, and views of Kensington Palace, as well
as glamorous mid-century bronze four-poster bed and the
eponymous vintage collection of framed Hermès scarves
hanging on white velvet upholstered walls. For a bit of al fresco, there’s a private balcony overlooking Kensington Palace
gardens. This room can interconnect to room No. 107, for an
additional King bedroom; however, children are not allowed
in the Hermès Suite due to the delicate furnishings.
The second renovated suite is “The Meghan,” No. 308,
and it’s a fitting tribute to the new Duchess of Sussex. A
grand space, descend eight steps into a double-aspect room
with large windows overlooking the park. The décor is bold
(think: leopard-print carpet, 18th-century ebony French
chests, Giacometti-style chairs and original contemporary art.)
The best bit: A vast black-and-white marble bathroom.
Both suites offer Butler Service, complimentary canapés
each evening, and private Bentley car service (extra charge).
The Milestone has 13 suites overall, as well as six apartments
and 43 other guestrooms.
Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane
Last summer, the Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane
also upped its suite game with the debut of seven new Ambassador Suites, restyled by renowned designer Pierre Yves
Rochon in shades of blue. All have floor-to-ceiling windows
that afford city and tree-top park views. Typical of the new
digs is room No. 630, which measures over 800 square feet.
The living space has been efficiently thought out to include
a generous seating area with sofa, lounge chair and table for
four, a 65-inch LED TV and a half-bathroom, plus a bedroom
with king-size bed, walk-in wardrobe, spacious bathroom with
a freestanding deep bathtub, and double vanity unit with a
mirror that has an integrated TV. Of interest to your family
clients: Suites can connect to a Deluxe Twin.
The Jaguar Suite at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate is exclusively
designed by Ian Callum, Jaguar’s acclaimed design director.
